We got the gold!

Willprint Shepparton P/L has been awarded a gold medal at the Printing Industries Craftsmanship Awards 2012 on Friday night (9.11) at the Grand Ballroom, Hotel Sofitel, Melbourne, for the second year running.
The first placing was in the Sustainable Green Print Environmental Award category, which follows our third year of Level II Sustainable Green Print (SGP) accreditation earlier this year.
It was awarded to: “A print business showing demonstrable recognition of environmental leadership by customers; auditable reduction in waste, reduction in energy and water consumption in operations as a percentage of output.”
“It is designed to recognise the efforts of print businesses to reduce their own impact on the environment and efforts to educate customers on the efficient and effective procurement of print.” (PICA2012: Call for Entries).
We were the first printing company in regional Victoria to gain Level II SGP accreditation and have passed accreditation for two further consecutive years.
Following the uniqueness of our first winning entry last year, this year’s entry was a replica of the first book ever printed; The Gutenberg Bible.
It was a large ‘leather’-bound book with gold edges and handrawn embellishments, akin to its real-life model.
Our report was printed in bible text and formed the opening pages of the ‘bible’.
It was a team effort to put together the one-off hand-made entry, that was complete with a gold tassel and handmade display stand.
One of our printers, Justin Christou, was also a finalist in the Lithographic Institute of Australia (LIA) Apprentice of the Year Award on the same night.
